Introduction

This issue covers our autumn golf break, the Christmas Trophy competition and the awards ceremony.

Autumn Golf Break

It was back to Norfolk once more for our autumn golf break, which was held from 17th to 19th October, although some of us turned up on the Friday evening for a bonding session in Blakeney. Mike and Ian were unable to make it but Stephen Gulson and Andy Parkinson joined us for the first two days (more of them later).

As on a number of previous occasions, match play competitions between Old and New Order were held in parallel with all three stableford competitions. The first competition for the Secretary’s Cup was held at Royal Cromer Golf Club and was won by David with 35 points. New order and Old Order were all square with 2 points each at the end of the first day.The second competition for the Treasurer’s Trophy was held at Sheringham Golf Club and was won by Stephen with 33 points with the trophy being awarded to David as the highest scoring diog. This was a close fought competition with six of the ten players scoring points in the range 31 to 33.At the end of the second day Old Order led New Order 4 ½ to 3 ½.

The final competition for the President’s Putter was held at Richmond Park Golf Club. Without Rob, Stephen and Andy there were seven players left to fight for this prestigious prize. John won with 34 points. John also won the Tous Trois Trophie with a total of 22 stableford points on all of the par 3 holes played over the three days.

In the match play competitions, Old Order and New Order were all square with 5 ½ points each and so New Order retained the trophy yet again.

Christmas Trophy and Awards Ceremony

The Christmas Trophy competition was held at Hersham Golf Club on 24th January 2010. David came third on countback with 32 points and was awarded the trophy. After the competition we retired to the Prince Of Wales pub for dinner followed by the ceremony to award all the trophies won since the spring. As you can see from the pictures below, our waitress was persuaded to help some of the older members with this arduous task.

At the awards ceremony Stephen Gulson and Andy Parkinson were voted in as full members of the society.
