Down In One Golf Society

Introduction

It has been some time since the last newsletter and this is partly due to the problems with updating the web site but mainly due to the demotion of the secretary to typist back in 2010. The good news is that the web site has been moved to a new host and the secretary has reinstated himself (as no-one else will). The bad news is that the events of the past 2 years have gone unrecorded apart from a few photographs that have been made available for publication.  So in an attempt to catch up with events, this issue covers the Spring Golf Breaks and President’s Golf Days for 2012 & 2013, the Christmas Trophy competitions for 2011, 2102 & 2013 and the Autumn Golf Break in 2012.

Christmas Trophy 2011

The competition for the 2011 Christmas Trophy was held at Hersham Golf Club on 29th January 2012 and was won by Andy who “beat” Rob to third place on count back. Some say it is a rare event when count back works against Rob.

Spring Golf Break 2012

We made a return visit to Dorset for this event which was held from 15th to 17th May 2012. The competition for the Secretary’s Cup took place at Wareham Golf Club and was won by Andy with 31 points.  The competition for the Treasurer’s Trophy took place at the Isle Of Purbeck Golf Club and was again won by Andy, this time with 32 points. The competition for the President’s Putter took place at Moors Valley Golf Club and was won by Andrzej with 36 points.

President’s Golf Day 2012

Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was the venue once again for the President’s Golf Day which was held on 24th January 2012. Stephen won the green jacket with a score of 31 points.

Autumn Golf Break 2012

We visited Kent from the 16th to 18th October for this golf break. The competition for the Secretary’s Cup took place at Nizels Golf Club and was won by Rob with 30 points.  The competition for the Treasurer’s Trophy took place at Tenterden Golf Club and was won by Stephen with 32 points. The competition competition for the President’s Putter was abandoned due to the bad weather.

Christmas Trophy 2012

The competition for the 2012 Christmas Trophy was held at Hersham Golf Club was won by Ian but unfortunately the records do not reveal the date of the competition nor his score.

Spring Golf Break 2013

The president invited us down to his country retreat in Devon for this event which took place between 8th and 12th May May 2013. In a change from previous golf breaks we allowed for 2 days of walking and sightseeing in addition to the usual 3 days of golf. The competition for the Secretary’s Cup took place at Ilfracombe Golf Club and was won by Andrzej with 29 points.  The competition for the Treasurer’s Trophy took place at the Minehead Golf Club and was won by David with 36 points. The competition for the President’s Putter took place at Oake Manor Golf Club and was won by Rob with 32 points.

President’s Golf Day 2013

At Tyrrells Wood Golf Club, our usual venue for the President’s Golf Day, the green jacket was won by Tony but again the records do not reveal the date of the competition nor his score.

Christmas Trophy 2013

The competition for the 2013 Christmas Trophy was held on 29th January at Tyrrells Wood Golf Club as Hersham Golf Club was waterlogged.  Not that the conditions were much better at Tyrrells as the cold and the rain meant we abandoned the competition after 9 holes of play.  Rod came third on count back, beating David to the trophy.
