   Newsletter Issue 26 - August 2015

Introduction

This issue currently covers the last two year’s President’s Golf Days, the Autumn Golf Break for 2014, the Christmas Trophy and the Spring 2015 Golf Break.

President’s Golf Day 2014

Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was the venue once again for the President’s Golf Day which was held on 8th July 2014. Rod won the green jacket with a score of 26 points. After the competition we met up at the Leg of Mutton and Cauliflower before moving on to the Ashtead Balti House for what is now becoming a traditional after match curry.

Autumn Golf Break 2014

We returned to Norfolk from the 7th to 9th October for this golf break although Andrzej, Ian and Rob went up earlier on 5th to do a bit of walking in the area around Blakeney . We had hoped to play at Royal Cromer and Sheringham, as in previous visits to this area, but the professional at Sheringham advised against us playing as the course was undergoing maintenance. So the first competition for the President’s Putter took place at Royal Cromer and was won by Andrzej with 28 points. The next day the six of us (Andrzej, Ian, Rob, David, Rod, and Andy) drove down to Wensum Valley Golf Club intending to play a competition for the Treasurer’s Trophy but the weather had other plans for us. After much debate the majority decided not to play in the rain and instead we visited Norwich Cathedral and had lunch in a nearby pub before David, Rod and Andy drove home. That left just three of us to battle it out for the Secretary’s Cup on the following day. We woke up to a relatively clear sky and headed back to Wensum Vally Golf Club to play the Wensum course. As we played we could see the storms around us but thankfully we played on in sunshine and only had to contend with a strong wind. We managed to navigate ourselves around the course with some of us avoiding the many water hazards better than others. In the end Andrzej triumphed again winning the cup with 29 points. He also won the Tous Trois Trophie with a total of 16 points over the two days.

Christmas Trophy 2014

Andrzej, Andy, David, Hugh and Rob battled it out for the Christmas Trophy at Hersham on 23rd February.  In the end Hugh won it by coming third with 26 points. Rod joined us for the meal afterwards in the Price Of Wales.

Spring Golf Break 2015

Andrzej, Andy, David, Ian, Rob and Rod went to Kent from the 15th to 17th October for this golf break, staying at the Travelodge in Tunbridge Wells. The first competition for the Secretary’s Cup was played at Nizels and Andy won the cup with an outstanding score of 38 points. Sweetwoods Park provided the venue for the second day’s competition, which was for the Treasurer’s Trophy, and Ian won this with another good score of 37 points. On the third day we went to Knole Park to play for the President’s Putter which was won by Richard (a late entry to the competition) with 30 points. The Tous Trois Trophie was won by Rob with a combined score on all the par 3s of 29 points.

President’s Golf Day 2015

Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was the venue once again for the President’s Golf Day which was held on 20th August 2015. Tony won the green jacket with an impressive score of 38 points. After the competition we met for a drink in the 19th at the club before moving on to the Mogul Dynasty in Ashtead for what is now becoming a traditional after match curry.
